The Future of the 2m2c

After 45 years of loyal service, the 2m2c is now at the turning point of its history. If the challenge of the deep and necessary renovation of its infrastructure is significant, it will also offer real opportunities to sustain the flagship events that take place within it, ensuring the growth of the "brand" that has become Montreux. Indeed, the expectations and requirements of event organizers and their public have changed significantly since the seventies, which require a programme of modernization of spaces adapted to the real needs of these key players. Precisely, it is a question of taking advantage of the transformations essential to update the offer and the installations, so that the center can sustainably pursue its mission of general interest and the preservation of its valuable inheritance. After renovation, the Congress Center will be able to accommodate events of global importance in better conditions and more easily smaller events, by adapting spaces, the size of the building remaining the same.

THE ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT

The concept of building restructuring consists of taking advantage of the security constraints to create independent entrances for each façade, at all levels, for all event locations, thus making them autonomous; "Each one's entries". Treated in a theatrical way, these colourful accesses amplify the versatility and use of all places simultaneously. They guide visitors and enhance the route to event spaces. These circulations leading to the various rooms "unfold" like ribbons along the façades. Thus, the spectators benefit from a panoramic sight on the lake, the passers-by can notice the public using the stairs to go to their events, thus proposing a theatrical staging, alive and different.

The renovated 2m2c will consist of a plinth, followed by a transparent joint at the avenue and a volume on the roof of the Stravinski building. This "crown" is levitated on the main entrance, giving this building a human scale, more homogeneous and integrating better with its environment because more open, welcoming and dynamic.

Inside, the passages between the levels of the two buildings offer fluidity of course thanks to new stairs and lifts. It is thus possible to reach each space without having to go to another area of activity. Particular care has been taken in the versatility of the rooms and the quality of the event venues; each space will have its entrance, its home, and its own services (sanitary and storage), facilitating the simultaneous reception of several events without interference. The 2m2c is surrounded by the lake, the mountains and the city in an exceptional site that differentiates it from other urban sites and makes its international fame. Whether in relation to the region or the landscape, the renovations will better integrate the building with its environment while leaving it the role of landmark that it must play.
